Does that make me a nerd?
Last night I was speaking with a friend (I'll leave her identity as anonymous to save her) and we got to discussing how we think that some of our friends are laughing behind our backs. Just because we like to enjoy the little things in life.
I made over two dozen chocolate cupcakes last night. You may remember that I don't even like chocolate, that much. I did it because I wanted to broaden my range. So, I tried out Billy's Chocolate Cupcake recipe; licked the spoon and bowl clean of batter and buttercream; decorated them and then sent out a mass text to all my local friends telling them to stop on by for a cupcake at any time.
Am I the only one in the world that responds to any communications directed towards me? I even reply back to forward joke e-mails; a simple 'ha ha' just to let the person know I got it and thought it was funny. Text me and I'll reply, no matter what. It may take awhile, but I'll do it. Why? Because you took the time to text me. I'm just so big on reciprocating communication it is unreal.
If you don't get a response from me; it means I never got it.
So, let's say I sent this text out at 6PM, last night.
It is now 9AM, the next morning.
Let's say I sent it out to at least ten people.
Not one reply. Not one.
Were they all busy?
I may be too paranoid in thought thinking that they are laughing behind my back.
"Cupcakes, again?"
"Will she ever stop?"
"I am so sick and tired of her and her damn cupcake making"
"Whatever"
Who can resist these?
Just for the record, I'm not mad or upset that no one replied back. Seriously. People are busy. It was around dinner time. I don't live that close to any one of my friends.
But still...a reply, last night would have been okay. I still cannot shake the feeling that the joke is definitely on me. Why?

I feel the same way...you're not nerdy! I LOVE having people over for dinner and hosting. Believe me, if we were in the same city, I would've there with a tupperware container to take some home!
Maybe I'm just brown and nerdy. If I wasn't five hours away I would so be there eating at least two cupcakes. AT LEAST TWO!
I would LOVE a cupcake. Or two. I feel the same way about reciprocating when it comes to communications. I hate it when I don't get replies. If they are laughing (which I doubt), then let them laugh. As long as you are happy then that is all that matters.
Me, too, I think I was born a hostess in another life.
For the record, Bev don't live 5 hours from here, it's more like 3.5 or 4 when you know how to put the foot on the pedal---5 hours!?! Or 45 minutes if you know what I really mean...hee hee.
OK and I re-thought this, maybe they are not laughing, and more like rolling their eyes at me. Again, it's all paranoia in my head.
FYI: I've eaten 3 already today and gave some to my apartment office staff...never met them before this morning, and the cleaning crew. HA.
They're not laughing at you...and cupcakes don't make you a nerd!
Whenever I get a message like that, I always think, "They don't really want anyone to stop by, they're just being nice..." Not sure why that is(or why anyone would fib about something like that). Maybe it's because I'm up here in New England and we're so much more awkward about the whole hospitality thing?
Anyway, I wouldn't take it personally :)
Whatever. They're not laughing, they're just CRAZY! I SO would have been over there for a cupcake in about 2 seconds flat.
Cupcakes are like a little bit of childhood...and I ask, how can that be nerdy?
Sitting in Austin traffic makes it 5 hours.
god, those cupcakes look delish!!! Save one for me, cuz your friends are absolutely crazy for passing those up!
